A Sunday in Finals SeasoN

Finals season is upon us here at Swarthmore. It sometimes feels all too easy to get caught up in all of the things going on, from projects to performances to preparing for exams, so it’s important to find time to relax in between. For me, Sundays are a good time to just stay here on campus and in the Ville and take it easy, and even in finals season, my Sundays still look somewhat the same.

This Sunday, I woke up bright and early… at 12:30pm. I meant to wake up a little earlier to get a few things done, but the extra sleep was well worth it. After I woke up, I got ready and then headed over into the town to meet my friend at Dunkin’.

There, I got my coffee, and I worked on some readings I had for my history class. My friend and I always enjoy sitting in Dunkin’ to get a little bit of work done while we sip on our coffees, and today was a perfect day to do just that. We worked and talked about various topics, such as planning out our summers and discussing what we had to do in this last stretch of classes.

My coffee!!!

A little later, we both went to the Swarthmore Co-op and got sandwiches for lunch. My friend got the “William Tell” sandwich, which has turkey, greens, apple slices and honey mustard on it, while I got the turkey club, which, unsurprisingly, is your classic turkey club sandwich. We ate our lunch, and then worked a little more on some miscellaneous projects and assignments we needed to wrap up. I wrote a quick reflection for the history readings I had done back at Dunkin’, and my friend continued her work on her final paper for one of her classes.

After that bit of work, it was time for a study break. My go-to is the store Of Aspen, which has a wonderful assortment of stationery, pens, stickers and all sorts of small trinkets. I always make sure to check the dollar bin, which is a collection of small items that are all, you guessed it, a dollar. I picked out a few little things for myself and then headed back out.

The dollar bin, one of the most amazing things ever made.

After that, we went to the Dining Center for dinner with some more friends. Since it was such a nice day out, we decided to sit outside and eat on the balcony. Then, we headed out, and I went to go check in on a project for my plant biology class. We are working on independent projects for our lab, studying something related to the concepts we learned throughout the year, and my project involves the coloration of succulents in response to stress. I went in and checked on how my plants were doing and gave them some water, then that was about it for my Sunday.

A simple, relaxing day like this is just what we all needed in this time at the end of the semester. With everything seemingly going on all at once, taking it easy for a day in the Ville was the perfect way to slow down, relax, and recharge.
