The Blessing that is the Science Center Coffee Bar

There are countless things to be grateful for on Swarthmore’s campus, but the Science Center Coffee Bar is definitely towards the top of the list. Its ideal location makes it the saving grace for almost every student that walks onto Swarthmore’s campus. Whether you are searching for that caffeine fix or just having some random cravings, the Science Center Coffee Bar will always be there for you (unless you’re looking for it between midnight and 8 a.m. during weeknights of the school year—dang).

Swarthmore is a college campus, and college campuses are flooded with college students. College students coupled with vigorous academics tend to lead towards quite a few caffeine addictions. Luckily, for students on Swarthmore’s campus, Science Center Coffee Bar has locally roasted coffee and espresso in addition to various teas, lattes, and other beverage options if you’re not a coffee fan.

If you’re anything like me, the Science Center Coffee Bar is an absolute miracle in the mornings before class. Personally, I value sleep more than most other things in my life, and I try and squeeze in every last second of sleep I can in the mornings. That sleeping system of mine pretty much makes it impossible to get to Sharples before class. While I can’t make it to breakfast in the morning, I am still quite passionate about actually getting something to eat in the morning. Lucky for me, the Science Center Coffee Bar has bagels, muffins, and other baked goods every morning (I am a huge fan of the chocolate chip muffins), so I can easily just grab something while running to class!

In addition to the fabulous pastries and beverage options, the Science Center Coffee Bar has fed me on more than one occasion. With fresh sushi and Asian food options delivered from a local restaurant everyday, and freshly made sandwiches, salads, and soups, you can never go hungry in the Science Center. I couldn’t count how many times I grabbed pork dumplings or chicken fried rice before an afternoon lab.

I suppose what I am trying to say is that I simply love the Science Center Coffee Bar. It’s been there for me before midterms and finals as well as random—but frequent—bouts of cravings, and I will forever be grateful for its presence.
