On Saturday, at approximately 5:00pm, I was casually glancing through my Twitter feed when I noticed that one of the trends was #philadelphiadance2014. I love dancing so my curiosity was immediately sparked! A search on the web revealed that it was national dance day and free dance workshops were being held in a building near Rittenhouse Square in Philly which was about 40 minutes away from Swat by train and a 10 minute walk. Events like a Zumba party to Salsa workshops to rumba to tango with people from shows like “So You Think You Can Dance” were being held. It took approximately 3 minutes for all of this beautiful information to sink in. I glanced at my clock, it read 6:30pm. Many of the workshops had already taken place so I could only make the Salsa workshop which was at 8:15pm.
I called a few friends who were on campus to try and convince them to come with me but unfortunately it was short notice. Was this dance workshop worth getting out of bed, switching off my lazy mode, putting on some salsa-y clothes and heading to the train station to catch the 7:11pm train by myself? While thinking, I bit into some chips I was eating, dipped it into some Tostitos salsa dip, realized I was eating salsa when I could be dancing salsa….weighed the pros and cons and then decided YES.
I jumped out of bed, put on some clothes and raced to the train station and I made it- LIKE A BOSS. I got off at Suburban Station and it took approximately 10 minutes to find the place. (So grateful for google maps) Well again, long story short salsa was so much fun! The instructors were funny, sleek and very great at their dance movements. I had taken a salsa class at Swat the semester before for my P.E credits so thankfully, I wasn’t too baadd…(I hope). Also, I made 3 new friends at the event who turned out to be really cool college students from Upenn and Drexel!

The moral of the story? It’s sometimes great to step out of your comfort zone to have fun! Oh and also, the train at the foot of Swat has proven to come in handy for me many times! #SWATSTRUCK
